Textured Pea Protein: The best vegan substitute for meat
Textured Pea Protein from FoodSeries is isolated pea protein, like the one you can find in our EssentialSeries line, but subjected to an extrusion process to achieve a unique consistency that allows its use, once rehydrated, as if it were ground beef.
Textured pea protein is a type of 'TVP', the English term for these preparations, developed as a way for people not used to consuming plant proteins to reduce their animal protein intake, and for those already following vegan diets to have alternatives with a rheology similar to traditional meat products, but without the consequences of the meat industry.
Textured pea protein has no added additives, fats, or other ingredients; it’s 100% pea protein, expertly prepared to get the best result without affecting its nutritional composition.
An ingredient you’ll never run out of:
82% high-quality protein. With all essential amino acids
Pea protein is traditionally known as a high-quality plant protein source, especially when dehydrated, as it naturally has a high protein content with a good amino acid profile.
Often, it’s combined with cereals to improve its amino acid spectrum, but pea naturally contains all essential amino acids, no need to add them, as you can see in the amino acid profile of our textured pea protein.
Enjoy a food similar to meat, with a higher protein content, ideal for vegans looking to boost their protein intake, enjoying your meals without losing the exemption from animal-based foods.
Allergen-free. An alternative to extruded soy
A common TVP, the most well-known, is textured soy; which consists of soy bean protein that’s extracted, usually with added gums and other additives, plus fats like canola or palm oil to make extrusion easier and faster and achieve its 'texturization'.
In our case, we chose not only to skip additives, making the extrusion process of our textured protein take longer, but achieving a better final result in texture and flavor, and most importantly: without compromising its nutritional quality in any way.
Another advantage of our textured pea protein is the absence of allergens, since traditional soy and its products are allergenic due to soybeans; while pea is not; and not only that, but our textured pea protein isn’t mixed with other textured proteins like most products on the market, which usually mix with wheat protein, aka: gluten.
Our textured protein is free from gluten and any other allergens: milk, soy. No allergens!
GMO-free. Responsibly grown peas
The peas used for isolating the protein we extrude for our product come from responsible farming, meaning farmers and companies that follow cultivation and harvesting practices that don’t harm the environment, unlike other companies selling foods made from industrially farmed plants, a practice we reject at HSN.
We’re committed to caring for society, offering healthy food at a fair price, and taking care of our environment by choosing the best raw materials, not only for their nutritional composition but also for their origin, treatment, and sourcing.
No added fats or additives. 100% pea protein
The usual process to prepare traditional TVP involves adding extra ingredients before extrusion to make the process easier.
This is problematic because the added ingredients reduce the total pea protein content, which is the food you want to consume, even in textured form; and often, the added compounds aren’t healthy, as they are fat sources that help protein extrusion.
However, we’ve tested until we got an ideal result, with the best texture and nutritional composition without adding ANYTHING.
Our textured pea protein is exactly that: 100% extruded pea protein isolate, with no additives of any kind.
Treatment: Isolate - Isolated, textured pea protein
It’s common for companies to use concentrated proteins for extruded foods, why? Because they’re cheaper.
Concentrated proteins have a better extraction rate from the original source, so their final protein content is lower, around 50-70%.
Our extruded pea protein is a pea protein isolate, of the highest quality, with 82% protein content. The best protein boost for your 100% plant-based recipes!
Cholesterol-free - Healthier than red meat
Extruded pea protein comes as a substitute for the texture and preparation ideas of ground red meat; and as a healthier alternative to this food.
Many international health organizations, like WHO, have warned about the high consumption of meat in Western populations, especially red and processed meat, and urge people to increase plant protein sources as a partial replacement for animal sources; however, this can be tough, since the closest substitute so far has been tofu, which realistically differs significantly from meat in every way: texture, flavor, consistency, etc. Although it can be deliciously prepared, it’s NOT a meat substitute as such.
Textured pea protein IS, with organoleptic properties equivalent to meat in flavor and texture, and all the good protein benefits of red meat, without cholesterol and with much less saturated fat. Perfect for those who want to take care of themselves.
How to prepare it? HSN recommendations
The simplest way to prepare it is to cook it for 10-15 minutes, and it’s ready to eat.
Another option is to boil water in a pot or microwave-safe bowl and pour it over the textured protein, letting it sit for 15 minutes to rehydrate.
But don’t limit yourself to that, because you can use the 'crisp' textured pea protein to make tons of recipes, from something keeping its traditional form: like ground meat for a pasta Bolognese sauce; to shaping it into meat-like clusters, like burgers or meatballs, but vegan style.
Once rehydrated, you can prepare textured pea protein however you want:
- Bake.
- Fry.
- Grill.
Your imagination is the limit!
It’s not just food for vegans!
It’s common to wonder if a food like this, which seems so specific for people who don’t eat meat, is only for them; but the truth is no, because it’s a very tasty option, easy to prepare, super flexible for all kinds of recipes, and very healthy.
It fits perfectly in a vegan diet, where it can be the main plant protein source, but of course it can also be part of a regular omnivorous diet, even mixed in the same recipe with non-plant ingredients, why not? Add extruded pea protein to boost your dishes with more flavor, incredible texture, and great nutrition.
Why choose this option over others?
High hydration capacity - More volume and better texture
Other plant texturates don’t significantly increase in volume when rehydrated and just soften.
Our textured protein expands a lot when cooked by rehydration, and its consistency improves, resulting in a tender but still firm interior, al dente, with a texture similar to meat.
Good exterior roasting - Perfect for grilling and frying
Rehydration doesn’t make textured protein lose its ability to toast, nor does toasting just dry out the food.
Our additive-free preparation is ideal because it makes cooking more natural, perfect for frying or grilling, achieving a nice crispy outer layer even in an air fryer.
Optimal texture: Juicy and firm... Just like real meat
Thanks to rehydration, textured pea protein turns out juicy, reminiscent of medium-cooked red meat even after cooking, since it doesn’t lose as much liquid as muscle fibers in traditional meat, which need high fat content to avoid dryness, negatively affecting nutrition.
Lean extruded pea protein stays juicy easily, no hassle.
However, being 'juicy' doesn’t mean it’s 'soft' because its interior consistency is 'al dente', very similar to meat, and the exterior can be toasted with dry heat from the oven, air fryer, or pan.
Should you add it to your regular diet?
If you’re vegan and looking for a new plant protein source to cook new recipes and enjoy them, it’s definitely ideal for you.
And if you’re an athlete, or not, who eats a lot of meat, say: every day, and want to cut back without losing the benefits of its protein, this food is definitely for you.

Discovery
Proteina guisante 20/09/2025
We always go around with shakes and measuring protein. I discovered this product and I really liked it. It is easy to make and can be combined with many things. The taste is peculiar and complicated to describe, it does not taste like peas. I liked it. I recommend it to combine and get to the proteins.

Texture a little hard
Mer 08/08/2025
It has a fantastic nutritional profile but when moisturizing it is a little hard for my taste, I tried to moisturize it longer and there was no change.

Excellent

As its nutritional value and aminogram are identical to those of pea protein, I always use this textured protein to complement dinner and replace the traditional post-workout shake. The taste is very mild and it absorbs the flavor of the food it is mixed with very well. 100g of this product, once cooked, becomes 400g, which makes a lot of volume in meals.

Not bad but vegan proteins are not my thing.
Joel 06/07/2025
It is quite good for peas and with spices it can be very good, although I am not a fan.

A basic that is a must in my pantry
Sara 10/05/2025
At home we often use it as a substitute for meat, to ensure the amount of protein and increase the vegetable-animal protein ratio in low-carbohydrate diets, AIP protocols, etc. It is prepared in a moment and it totally works! I would recommend that they consider offering larger formats, 1kg or more (we run out fast).
