Social Responsibility

We are an online company that sells throughout Europe, where research, development and quality form the basis of our philosophy. One example is the certificates of the raw materials we use to manufacture our products.

Our commitment to society is also part of these values, which is why we carry out a series of actions focused on sustainability.

We currently divide our social responsibility into 2 main areas:

1. Social Actions

We collaborate with various organisations and foundations whose aim is to support people with unmet basic or specific needs.

In this way, HSN shows its support for the Red Cross, Food Bank, Raíles Foundation, UAPO Foundation and Aladina Foundation, among others, by collaborating in various actions and activities aimed at improving quality of life.

2. Commitment to the Environment

As manufacturers and logistics managers, we are committed to the environment, working towards continuous improvement in our manufacturing processes with the aim of reducing the environmental impact we may generate.

Our Commitment (Corporate Social Responsibility)

CommitmentCommitment

Environment

We believe in sustainability and ensure that our production processes have the lowest possible impact on the environment, reducing our carbon footprint as much as possible.

In line with this commitment, we hold the Verpackungsrecycling: Duales System Interserch certification:

  • External control audits
  • Registration with the central packaging register agency

Through this certification, HSN contributes to:

  • The recycling and reuse of our packaging and transport material.
  • The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
  • The control of waste management.

However, our commitment to the environment never stops, which is why we are continuously working to obtain new certifications that support the commitment, honesty and transparency that guide all our processes.

To this end, we are already taking actions in this area and have others planned:

Biodegradable Materials

We have replaced the packaging for some of our products, opting for packaging made with 50% recycled plastic.

As part of our commitment to sustainability and the environment, we continue working to reduce plastic in our product packaging, always taking into account the preservation requirements of all our food products.

Under the supervision of our Quality department, led by Billie Kathleen Eales, we ensure that these compostable materials do not alter the preservation of the product.

100% biodegradable measuring scoops

At HSN, we are taking another step towards our goal of reducing environmental impact.

After leaving it up to our customers in 2022 to decide whether or not measuring scoops should be included in their purchases of HSN powder products, in 2023 we began progressively introducing 100% biodegradable scoops into our products.

Currently, all 5, 10, 50 and 70ml measuring scoops included with HSN powder products are 100% biodegradable. We are still in the process of incorporating them into the remaining sizes.

These scoops are made from 100% compostable, eco-friendly PLA materials, with no coatings or oxides of any kind in their composition.

HSN customers now have 100% biodegradable scoops available in HSN powder products.

At HSN, we work to care for the environment, aware of our responsibility as a manufacturing brand. Our commitment is to reduce the use of unnecessary plastic.

According to data from Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Miteco), collected in 2022, plastic generates 1,492,739 tonnes of waste, of which 868,015 tonnes are recycled. Of this amount, 40% corresponds to plastic used for single-use packaging.

Therefore, reducing environmental impact is in everyone’s hands. At HSN, we are committed, and the new 100% biodegradable scoops for our powder products are one of our actions in the fight against the use of unnecessary plastic.

Learn about the policy we follow at HSN regarding the use of plastics and, more specifically, the use of measuring scoops.

Adjusted packagingAdjusted packaging

Right-sized packaging

  • We are working to adjust all packaging sizes, with the aim of reducing unnecessary material.

Packaging that is adapted to consumption and the product can reduce transport costs and carbon emissions.

In addition, fewer raw materials are used in its manufacture, reusing and recycling all components of the system.

Recycling

As manufacturers, recycling is part of our commitment to the environment.

All packaging used in our plant is subsequently recycled, and we also work in this way in our offices and logistics centre.

At HSN, by controlling the entire product development and production chain, we ensure the recycling of all packaging left over from the process.

RecyclingRecycling

Single Chain

By developing, manufacturing and managing the complete logistics of each of our products, avoiding intermediaries and bringing HSN directly to the customer’s home, we save on intermediary transport that does not contribute to protecting the environment.

With a significant reduction in CO2 emissions

What could this reduction be equivalent to?

We can compare it to driving around the world 730 times by car.

We control the process, avoid intermediaries and, as a result, unnecessary transport.

Once developed and manufactured in our own facilities, HSN products have only one path, one single direction: our customer.

Pick up your order and do your bit for the planet

At HSN, we are committed to a more sustainable world, and now you can join our commitment to the environment in an easy and convenient way with pick-up points.

Our goal is to reduce the number of delivery trips made by the different companies we work with, lowering CO₂ emissions and supporting care for the planet.

Why choose a pick-up point?

  • You receive your order safely and without waiting.
  • You earn 50 HSN points with every purchase.
  • You reduce your carbon footprint, helping to lower CO₂ emissions.
  • You contribute to logistics efficiency, avoiding multiple journeys.

It’s very simple: when completing your HSN order, choose a nearby pick-up point and enjoy a more sustainable delivery.

Join the change. Every small decision counts. Make yours have a positive impact!

FSC Label on Our Shipments

As part of developing our role as a socially responsible company and protecting the environment, our shipments began to include the FSC label in April 2023.

The FSC certificate ensures the proper management of forest resources and guarantees the conservation of forests and the environmental values that surround them. It also promotes the sustainable management of forests worldwide.

HSN works every day to expand its commitment to the environment.

HSN Sustainability

As part of our commitment to the environment, at HSN we aim to work towards sustainability by investing in the installation of renewable energy across all our facilities.

Taking advantage of our geographical location, we harness solar energy through the installation of solar panels on the roofs of all our facilities: factory, offices and logistics centres.

In this way, photovoltaic solar energy covers the day-to-day energy needs of most HSN production. In addition, the company can supply the electricity grid with the energy produced by its photovoltaic panels that it will not use.

BioSeries Line

The BioSeries line, on which our R&D&I team is working to develop new products in the medium term, offers a 100% natural range with ingredients sourced from organic farming.

In addition, we are working on new packaging where we will minimise the use of plastic, prioritising recycled and biodegradable materials.

HSN plasticHSN plastic

Why are most of our containers made of plastic?

As manufacturers of food products, as well as complements in capsules and powder form, our first commitment to customers is to ensure that all products arrive in the best possible condition. That is why packaging is a fundamental element, playing a key role in the recommended consumption date and expiry date.

In most cases, plastic meets the requirement of optimising our packaging so that it is as safe as possible and helps extend the shelf life of our food products. It should also be borne in mind that our products reach the end consumer directly, so they can be recycled.

Plastic is only considered a hazardous material when it enters the environment directly. Despite everything mentioned above, at HSN we are working to use packaging made from recycled and biodegradable materials in the medium term, depending on the product line and where safety allows. In this regard, we have adjusted all our packaging sizes to reduce unnecessary material.

Red Cross & HSN

Red Cross focuses its efforts on protecting children and families facing social difficulties, thereby ensuring the fulfilment of their fundamental rights and addressing specific needs that arise and that, in some way, are not fully covered by public administrations.

At HSN, we collaborate with them on various initiatives, such as their annual Charity Race.

This partnership is a call to action for all HSN customers to contribute the most charitable, committed “supplement”, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and supportive of children.

HSN’s social work with the Red Cross was created to respond to the needs of thousands of children who are part of the Red Cross School Success programme, guaranteeing them healthy nutrition.

The Red Cross’s main actions for children include: educational support, the delivery of breakfasts and snacks, leisure and free-time activities, and prevention and awareness workshops.

Food Bank & HSN

Since 2019, we have collaborated with The Great Food Collection campaign, carried out annually by the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL).

As part of our social commitment, we donate foods from our online catalogue, showing our support for the Food Bank, which works to support the wellbeing of the most disadvantaged people and/or those at risk of social exclusion.

Raíles Foundation & HSN

We also aim to bring sport and healthy living to everyone, which is why we collaborate with the Raíles Foundation, which works to promote the rights and wellbeing of people with disabilities across different areas of society.

Since 2019, HSN has provided the on-court kit for all the players of the Raíles Foundation basketball team (formerly known as ADEMO), as well as offering them sports equipment for their training sessions and matches.

Sport is a fundamental tool for giving people with intellectual disabilities a better future, helping to improve social relationships and integration among them.

At HSN, we support the work carried out to improve quality of life, as well as the inclusion of people as full citizens in a fair and supportive society.

UAPO Foundation & HSN

In 2023, we began supporting and collaborating with the UAPO Foundation (Oncology Patient Support Unit), which works to provide cancer patients with comprehensive intervention.

UAPO currently has three centres in Spain: Granada, Madrid and Malaga. There, it carries out its project to help cancer patients through physical exercise, and to treat them with physiotherapists and physical trainers who improve their quality of life and recovery.

All these actions are endorsed by the PROFITH-CTS977 group from the University of Granada, which ensures that patient interventions are based on scientific evidence.

HSN collaborates with UAPO on its different projects, which also include collaboration in cancer research, as well as its presence in the various UAPO centres.

Treatment of Sickle Cell Disease in Senegal

At the end of 2022, the NGO Baruma asked HSN for help with the aim of treating patients with sickle cell disease with RawSeries L-Glutamine Powder, based on the FDA’s 2017 approval of the amino acid for oral administration.

HSN collaborated by donating the necessary amount of L-Glutamine Powder from its RawSeries line for the treatment of patients at the Fass Diahe healthcare centre in Kolda, Senegal.

Sickle cell disease is a chronic hereditary condition that causes a malformation of red blood cells and is very common in Senegal. In the case of these patients, it is a disease that cannot be cured, but efforts are made to alleviate the serious consequences it causes, providing them with a suitable environment and teaching them to understand their disease and take care of themselves.

Aladina Foundation & HSN

In 2024, we began collaborating with the Aladina Foundation, which works to ensure that no sick child or family ever loses their smile or their will to fight.

Currently, the Aladina Foundation helps around 1,500 sick children across Spain each year, through the 20 hospitals where it collaborates.

The aim is to give these children all the care and affection they need from the moment they arrive at hospital, accompanying them every day so they know they are not alone and feel its unconditional support.
