Naturally caramelised onion

Caramelising onion is a natural process that happens when it’s cooked slowly over low heat, allowing its natural sugars to break down into complex compounds, giving it a sweet flavour and soft texture.

We prepare our caramelised onion the classic way, following these steps:

  1.  First, we slice the onions into thin strips.
  2.  Then, we heat a large pan over medium-low heat without any fat – we do this to avoid adding unnecessary fats to the product.
  3.  We add a pinch of salt to the onions to help release their moisture and stir regularly to prevent burning.

The caramelisation process takes time, up to 60 minutes, as we cook them over very low heat without added oil or butter. As they cook, the onions release their juices, which slowly evaporate, allowing the natural sugars to caramelise. The result you’ll get is of a much higher quality than similar products on the market. The key is to keep the heat low and stir frequently to ensure even browning without burning – something many other brands don’t manage. Cooking on high heat dries out the pan too quickly and burns the caramelised bits at the bottom. By using low heat and patience, the onion releases its own juices, deglazing the pan naturally.

    I was surprised by the caramelized onion, with hardly any calories and a good flavor. Ideal for meats and sautéing with vegetables. The jar could be bigger. I will repeat for sure.
