Baikal Skullcap: Ultra-concentrated baicalin extract
Baicalin 250mg (from Baikal skullcap) by EssentialSeries is a food supplement made from 20:1 root extract of Baikal skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis), standardised to 85% baicalin, and with a high added content of pure vitamin C.
Scutellaria baicalensis, known as Baikal skullcap, has been used for centuries in Chinese culture and Kampo medicine in Japan. It was valued for its spiritual properties linked to Qi. Its root was a key component in preparations designed to support individuals involved in these traditional rituals. Over time, its use has spread thanks to modern studies that have explored its properties and potential as a herbal food supplement.

Discover the power of natural Baicalin
Your antioxidant ally – Supports joint and muscle health
Baikal skullcap is a concentrated source of baicalin, a powerful flavonoid key to the plant’s profile. Skullcap acts as a natural antioxidant. Its action is not only general antioxidant support, but it is also widely used by older adults, since:
- It supports joint health.
And by athletes because:
- It contributes to the proper functioning of muscles during normal physical activity, exercise, or sports, helping maintain performance and aid muscle recovery.

250mg of baicalin per capsule – Maximum potency in every serving
Each capsule of our Baikal Skullcap extract provides 250mg of baicalin, ensuring an optimal, high-concentration dose. Baicalin is the main active ingredient in skullcap and is responsible for its most recognised nutritional properties. Without precise standardisation, baicalin levels in extracts can vary significantly, severely affecting their quality. That’s why it’s essential to rely on high-quality extracts that are standardised – like HSN’s, with a guaranteed 85% baicalin content to ensure a stable and optimal amount of the active compound in each dose, maximising its benefits.
In the world of herbal extracts, standardisation is key to ensuring quality, purity, and potency. A non-standardised extract may contain unstable levels of its bioactive compounds. When a plant contains well-known active chemical components and is not a 'broad spectrum' extract, it is important to ensure it is properly standardised.
This is the case with skullcap and its baicalin content, which is why we've developed our extract with these features.
Standardised extract – 85% baicalin for a guaranteed effect
As explained, standardisation in herbal extracts is essential to ensure each dose provides an accurate and adequate amount of the active compound.
In the case of Baikal Skullcap, its 85% baicalin concentration is exceptionally high, delivering a high content that makes it more convenient to use. Many skullcap extracts on the market don’t have guaranteed baicalin content or are poorly standardised; at HSN we have conducted an in-depth search to develop a premium-quality food supplement with a top-grade extract.
Clean Label – Vegetable capsules, free from allergens and unnecessary additives
At HSN we never settle – we strive for continuous improvement in every aspect we can optimise to keep offering premium-quality products at a fair price. As part of this mission, we have spent years actively refining our formulations. Not only in the ways that most food supplement brands focus on – something we’ve ensured since our foundation – but we go even further:
One of our most significant improvements has been the substantial reduction in the use of additives. We’ve innovated in the way we prepare food supplements in formats that typically require many more ingredients (such as capsules and tablets), and now, as part of our testing, we include manufacturing trials of ‘clean label’ encapsulated supplements, with fewer and lower quantities of additives, resulting in simpler products containing only what you want to use.
Of course, we tightly control allergens through a custody system audited under HACCP procedures, ensuring no cross-contamination of allergens; and we promote the use of plant-based ingredients, using, for instance, vegan coating agents instead of gelatine, unlike most other companies.
Ultimately, at HSN you’ll find products like Baicalin, simpler and more authentic, offering only what you’re looking for – suitable for everyone.

A key flavonoid, in its purest and most concentrated form
Baicalin is a bioactive flavonoid present in high concentrations in the root of Baikal Skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis). It belongs to the flavone family, a group of polyphenolic compounds naturally produced by plants. In Skullcap, baicalin is its most characteristic and well-studied component, setting it apart from other Scutellaria species. In the extract, it naturally appears as a glucoside, which aids its stability and absorption in the body.
This flavonoid developed as part of the plant’s evolution to protect itself from environmental stress. Its concentration in the root of Baikal Skullcap is significantly higher than in other parts of the plant, which is why we only use the root to obtain the highest-quality herbal extract. During digestion, baicalin converts into baicalein – its aglycone form – which the body absorbs and uses for its nutritional benefits.
Most commercially available herbal extracts contain around 50% baicalin, but ours is standardised to 85% to offer you the highest quality, purity, and concentration.
Baicalin – Where to find it and how to combine it?
Many classic phytochemicals found in plants are present across different species. However, baicalin is not one of them – skullcap is the only species with a significant content of this compound. This means baicalin is typically absent from our diets, and the only way to benefit from its nutritional properties is through skullcap-based food supplements.
For joints, baicalin is often combined with:
For muscles, it's commonly paired with:
And for its antioxidant properties, it's often combined with:
