What is the HSN Kids Mask?

Kids Mask by HSNaccesories is a textile face accessory in one size for kids that covers the mouth, nose and chin, and is fitted with two elastic drawstrings on the sides for support. The internal filtration fabric meets the acceptance criteria set out in 0065:2020 UNE technical specifications.

The HSN mask made for kids is composed of two layers of fabric:

  • A 100% custom polyester outer layer with fun children's drawings.
  • A 90% polyester/20% polyamide inner layer with Aitex®certified material conforming to 0065:2020 UNE standards.

WARNING: This is not a medical product within the requirements of the 93/42 Directive or the EU Regulation 2017/745, nor is it individual protection equipment within the EU Regulation 2016.425.

Why buy a HSN Kids Mask?

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Spanish government published the SDN/354/2020 Order on the 19th of April, establishing exceptional measures to ensure public access to recommended products of use as hygienic measures for the prevention of the spread of COVID-19.

The second provision of this order, 'scope', recognises as a measure the use of:

'Products necessary for the protection of public health, understood as those that, without specifying the condition of medical standard or health product, are considered essential to minimise the risk of the spread of COVID-19 among people. In particular:

Hygienic masks, both disposable (one use only) as well as reusable masks, understood to be a facial piece covering the mouth, nose and chin and that it is equipped with a harness for the head and meets the requirements of the UNE 0064-1:2020, UNE 0064-2:2020, UNE 0065:2020 technical specifications or any equivalent standard.'

The material with which the HSN® mask is made complies with the established criteria for the use of this facial piece in the SDN/354/2020 order.

Why the HSN mask made especially for kids?

Filtration and Breathability

The acceptance criteria for reusable hygienic masks establish numerical cutting values for the fabric with which reusable hygienic masks are made.

The internal filter lining of the HSN®mask meets the acceptance criteria of:

  • Filtration efficiency by BFE test.
  • Breathability determined by differential pressure.

The tests have been carried out and the fabric is certified by the AITEX®Textile Technology Institute.

Many manufacturers will emphasise maximum filtration levels, comparable to PPE, however hygienic masks are not medical products, and reaching those filter levels in material not prepared for medical use seriously affects breathability.

Material without a risk of irritation

Another critical feature for determining the quality of a hygienic mask according to UNE standards is that the material that contacts the skin does not present known risks of irritation or adverse effects on health.

The material used in the manufacturing of our mask is not likely to release irritants into the inhalation environment. It does not constitute a danger or inconvenience to the user.

The fabric is Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex®certified. It is the world's leading eco-label for textile products that have been evaluated and certified by internationally recognised institutes. This certification ensures to the consumer that textile products have been analysed by controlling substances harmful to health.

In addition, the certified fabric is water-repellent, which means it repels water, acting as a barrier for viruses and bacteria.

Size of the mask

The HSN mask is currently sold under the specifications of the size suitable for 'Children 3 to 6 years'.

The mask is not self-adjusting and its unique dimensions make it necessary to adapt the tension of the elastic support bands. If your mask is still too big you can use the HSN Ear Saver to tighten it more with a higher-tension anchor point, or make a knot on the elastic straps for the same purpose.

Lifetime guarantee

Reusable hygienic masks must be able to withstand at least 5 wash and drying cycles according to UNE 0065:2020 specification. The Aitex®testing of the filter material has been carried out before the first washing and drying cycle and after the fifth:

Certified fabric is guaranteed to maintain its protection and comfort characteristics after 5 wash and drying cycles.

Taking into account the thresholds established by the standard, the rate of variation of the parameters determined in relation to the number of washing and drying cycles, and the starting values:

It is estimated that the standard properties of the mask can be maintained for up to 15 wash and dry cycles safely.

How do you use the HSN Kids Mask?

The use of the mask is simple and only the following steps should be followed carefully.

It is recommended to place the mask directly on the skin without textile intermediaries.

  1. Wash your hands with soap and water, or if this is not possible, sanitise them well with an alcohol solution before using the mask.
  2. Find the top part of the mask.
  3. Put the mask on your face, positioning it over the nose. Hold the mask from the outside and put the elastic ear harnesses behind your ears with our HSN Ear Saver or on both sides of the ears.
  4. Lower the bottom of the mask to the chin, and check that the mask covers the chin.

Characteristics of mask handling

The mask can be washed up to 60ºC, and ironed up to a maximum of 110ºC. Do not apply bleach, do not tumble dry or dry wash to preserve its properties.
