Collagen is a fibrous protein, characteristically present in connective structures such as skin or joint cartilage and is the main protein present in the body. It is characterised by a three-dimensional structure in the form of an interlaced triple helix.

Native type I collagen is not absorbed properly, so it must be pre-digested using industrial processes. This process is called hydrolysis.

Hydrolysis can be carried out by many means, the most common (but least recommended for collagen) being acid hydrolysis.

At HSN, we use enzymatic hydrolysis procedures to hydrolyse our collagen into peptides, which has resulted in a much less intense taste, as acid hydrolysis naturally generates a huge amount of salt and makes the raw material very bitter.

Our raw, unflavoured collagen used in the development of this product has a neutral, slightly salty taste, so it is not only of the highest quality but also enjoyable.

According to scientific research, indigestible native collagen weighs a whopping 300 KDa, and it is recommended to hydrolyse below 6 kDa in order to take proper advantage of its functions.
